Oh boy. Seemingly, the Hawks are in good shape. They have made the playoffs for the last five years, and return the core of a pretty good team (Joe Johnson, Al Horford, and Josh Smith). But they’re also already at the salary cap limit, and they only have six players signed. They will also be paying Joe Johnson $25 million in 2016, but that’s another story.
If you’re a believer in Jeff Teague, and I think he’s a perfectly competent point guard, the Hawks are set there. That leaves only shooting guard where they have…NOBODY BECAUSE THEY ONLY HAVE SIX PLAYERS UNDER CONTRACT!
If there is a shooting guard available with the 23rd pick that is capable of starting right away, the Hawks should snap him up. If not, they should go with the best guard they can find. I like Jeff Teague at the point, but he is by no means irreplaceable.
